Tackling the Garage Clutter
The garage can be a notorious gathering place for holiday decorations, extra furniture, out of season clothes and the kid’s old toys. Maybe there are still moving boxes from a couple years back that you never got around to unpacking. And why pay for a storage unit when you have one attached to your house?
But ask yourself, “could I use this garage space more efficiently?” The answer is “absolutely!” Maybe you want to park your cars in the garage or set up a workshop. With summer coming up, maybe the garage could be used as an entertainment space or a campsite for the kid’s sleepovers. But there is so much clutter in the garage it’s overwhelming to think about where to start or what to do with all the items.
When Chattanooga Cleaning Company is hired to organize and de-clutter, we start by asking what the client’s goal for the space is. In the garage, creating a workshop as well as having a place to park the car is likely the most common goal. Next, we determine items that are a “must keep” or “can’t live without.” If it doesn’t fall into one of those categories, it’s typically an item that will get tossed or get taken to a storage unit. Although it can be challenging to get rid of the items you’re used to seeing piled up in the garage, you will sleep better at night knowing it’s one less thing to worry about “someday.” To achieve the goals of our clients, we aim to utilize wall space, attic space and ceiling space for hanging bulky items like bicycles, kayaks and camping gear. We typically recommend that our clients purchase or build organizing shelving and bins with labels so that it is clear where to put something back after being used to avoid a similar situation in the future.
And after de-cluttering and organizing the garage, who knows what’s next? The dreaded play room? The spare bedroom being used for storage? Whatever the goal is, we are here to help so that you can spend more time doing what you love (which we know is probably not worrying about the clutter in your garage)!
